Lael Montgomery joined the Judicial Arbiter Group in February 2012 after fifteen years on the bench of the Twentieth Judicial District in Boulder, Colorado. As a district court judge she presided over civil, probate, domestic, criminal, and juvenile dockets. She has tried many complex civil cases including multi-state and Colorado class actions, business disputes, medical malpractice, and construction defect cases. She was Boulder’s probate judge for two years and has been recognized for her work in family law.
 
During her time on the bench, Montgomery was active on many committees that sought to improve the justice system for the people it served. She was a member of the Boulder County Mental Health/Criminal Justice Task Force, the Boulder County Bar Association Professionalism Committee, and was appointed by the Chief Justice to the statewide Colorado Respondent Parents’ Counsel Task Force. She has published articles on sex offenders, mentally ill criminal defendants and family law issues and has also given presentations and trainings on social media and jurors, conducting jury trials, elder law issues, family law issues and criminal law and probation.
