Lael Montgomery joined the Judicial Arbiter Group in February 2012 after fifteen years on the bench of the Twentieth Judicial District in Boulder, Colorado.
She has presided over complex civil litigation including Colorado and multi-state class actions, business disputes, medical malpractice, and construction defect cases. She also served for two years as Boulder's probate judge. Judge Montgomery was appointed by the Chief Justice to the Supreme Court Standing Committee on Family Issues at its inception and served for a time as chair. She was awarded the Distinguished Jurist Award by the Colorado chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and the Community Service Award by the Boulder Interdisciplinary Committee.
Judge Montgomery is active in bar, school and church programs in the Boulder area. She is currently training for her first triathlon, recently traveled to Japan to visit her son, and enjoys seeing the country in a vintage Airstream trailer.
Nancy Hopf joined the Judicial Arbiter Group as an arbiter in 2011. Prior to joining JAG, Judge Hopf was a general jurisdiction judge in Colorado’s 18th Judicial District for seven years, and an Administrative Law Judge for twelve years. She brings to JAG broad insight into a wide range of legal disputes and a wealth of dispute resolution experience, having completed mediation training through the American Arbitration Association and the National Judicial College. She was appointed to the Multi-District Litigation Panel by former Chief Colorado Supreme Court Justice Mary Mullarkey.
Judge Hopf stays active in the community through the Arapahoe County Bar Association, serving as a board member of the ACBA Foundation and presenting on topics including mediation ethics and dispositive motions. She is also a volunteer for the Douglas and Arapahoe County high school mock trial tournaments, and the University of Denver Moot Court.
