Bronfin, Edward

Judge Edward “Ed” Bronfin is a second-generation Denver native and graduated from the Denver Public Schools.

He completed his undergraduate degree in liberal arts at St. John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland and Santa Fe, New Mexico. Ed graduated with honors, Order of St. Ives, from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law.

While in law school, Ed began a clerkship in 1979 at a Denver-area trial/civil litigation law firm and remained with that firm as an associate and a partner through 1995, and then was a partner at another Denver trial/civil litigation law firm between 1995 and his appointment to the bench in 2008.

During his 27 years in private practice, Judge Bronfin handled a wide variety of civil litigation matters, including medical malpractice and products liability cases, personal injury cases, mass tort/multidistrict litigation, medical malpractice arbitrations, and insurance coverage issues and disputes.

Ed Bronfin was appointed to the Denver District Court bench by Gov. Ritter in 2008, and served on the bench for over fourteen years, presiding in civil, criminal, and domestic divisions. During his service on the bench, Judge Bronfin presided over hundreds of civil and criminal trials and issued numerous written orders.

Judge Bronfin has taught and presented at numerous continuing legal education programs and trial practice classes for lawyers, and at community outreach programs for the public about the courts and judicial system. He has lectured and published articles on multiple legal topics and contributed to a chapter about the medical-legal aspects of blood transfusion.

On September 11, 2023 the NATIONAL DIRECTORATE OF ALTERNATIVE CONFLICT RESOLUTION of the Costa Rican MINISTRY OF JUSTICE and PEACE made Judge Bronfin a Certified Arbitrator for International Center for Conciliation and Arbitration of the Costa Rican American Chamber of Commerce (CICA-AMCHAM).
