Judge Gary Kramer

Judge Gary Kramer served as a District Court Judge in the 18th Judicial District from February 2016 until August 2024.  Judge Kramer served as the only District Judge in Elbert County for 5-1/2 years, where he presided over every case type, including civil, criminal, domestic, probate, and juvenile.

Before he took the bench, Judge Kramer was a partner and chair of the litigation department of the Denver law firm Berenbaum Weinshienk. Prior to joining that firm, Judge Kramer was with Gibson Dunn in that firm’s Washington, D.C. and Denver offices. In 1996, Judge Kramer joined the practice of Arthur M. Schwartz, P.C., which specialized in constitutional litigation. He particularly enjoyed and excelled at complex financial cases, including complex tax, civil, probate, domestic, and environmental matters.

Judge Kramer grew up in southeast Denver and attended the University of Colorado for both his undergraduate education and law school. While in Law School, Judge Kramer was the Articles Editor of the University of Colorado Law Review and graduated Order of the Coif. Judge Kramer and his wife, Dr. Susan Fixman, have three grown children and two grandchildren. In his spare time, Judge Kramer enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, stand-up paddleboarding, hiking, scuba diving, and bicycling.
